Assignment: Select one of the following and write what you think Dr. King meant by
the statement and why was it relevant for the time period.
Selected Phrase: "Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred."
I think by saying "Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred" Martin Luther King, Jr. meant that when you are searching for your freedom, you should not be judging others by something they have absolutely no control of. Being free does not mean you are free to judge others only for the simple reason that you are not happy with your life. During the time that Martin Luther King, Jr. made the "I Have a Dream" speech, there were slavery and equality issues.

Assignment: Listen and React to What You Are Hearing: "I Have a Dream" speech by Martin Luther King, Jr.?
I, personally, agree completely with the "I Have a Dream" speech. It should not matter the color of your skin, you should not have to wake up everyday wondering how many people are going to judge you for being white, black, orange, whatever the color is. No matter how you think you need to classify others, we are all going to be equal, regardless what others believe. By making this speech, Martin Luther King, Jr. proved that one person really can make a difference by standing for their beliefs. If you feel that you must judge someone to get through your day, make sure to judge them by the depth of their character, not by the color of their skin.
